Things to do: Sailing the Bangkok canals
An activity that could not miss on a trip to Bangkok is a tour through its channels, the so-called Klongs. By these channels Bangkok has gained the name of "Venice of the East".
Formerly the Klongs were used, as well as to take care of the sewage of Bangkok, for the transport of goods and people and for the sale in the floating markets.
Today much of the canals have been rebuilt as streets, with only a few remaining on the western side of the Chao Phraya River.
There are two usual tours, one hour and two hours. We would recommend this second, in addition to its duration, because more traditional channels are crossed and we will see more of the life of the people who live on its shores.
To make the walk through the channels, we can do it privately or in the different organized tours. If we go two people it will cost us similar to have a boat for ourselves to share our adventure with a group of people. Lonely travelers will find it more profitable to join a tour.
To hire the excursion we must go to the Sapham Taksin dock (Skytrain, Silom line). The agencies for making the private walk are by the river. If we want to go in a group, just leave the Skytrain will offer us.
